Why do cars hate me?

On the way to work this morning, I noticed a little smoke coming out of my bonnet and quickly checked the temperature gauge. The car was a hairsbreadth away from overheating so I pulled over to the side of the freeway before any major damage could happen.

I called Brian who fought the morning traffic to come to my rescue. From his initial examination, he deduced that one of the hoses had burst.

After having fixed it and replacing the water in the radiator which had steamed away, burst out or otherwise disappeared, we attempted to start the car again. It was still running a little hot but not in the red zone any more.

I pulled back onto the freeway and proceeded one more exit and it began overheating again. Once again, I pulled off, this time onto an exit so I could get away from the traffic and park the car. Brian then had another look in the engine.

I had a look around at the scenery and played with the sepia setting on my camera.
Brian figured out what the problem was but was unable to fix it right there. He’d drop me off at work and I offered to take the train home.

What IS it with me and cars? They always seem to break down, blow a hose or otherwise roll over and die while I’m driving them! The one thing I’m thankful for is that it wasn’t Chloe driving when it happened. She might not have known what to do and kept driving until it quit and some real damage was done. As it is, the radiator needs fixing and the temperature gauge needs adjusting. Not huge but still, an expense we were not anticipating and therefore annoying.

I can’t wait to be driving a brand spanking new car with (hopefully) no defects!

The culprit hose…

And again….

Nice street

See how impressed I am?
