Ok, so I got the car back today but not before getting the run-around.
I called the panel-beater around 1pm to see when I could pick up the car. The first time I spoke with them, I was told that they were waiting on parts from over east and that they wouldn’t all be in until Monday. Now, I know, as part of my job that there had been a train derailment today and that it was more than likely that they wouldn’t get the parts until later in the week.
I told the guy, that I desperately needed the car this weekend and what could he do for me? Getting back to me the second time, I was told that they might be able to make it road worthy (it was in pieces - or so I gathered from the way he was talking) for the weekend and I might be able to come back on Monday to get the last piece, which wasn’t crucial.
The third time I spoke with him, he advised me that the information he had gotten before was all second hand and that he’d now looked at the car himself and nothing was really that crucial. I could pick up the car at 3:45pm and they’d call me when the parts came in. It would only take a half hour to fix up then.
Upon arriving to get the car, I was told that miraculously, the parts had all been there and that the whole job was completed and there would be no need to come back..BUT they hadn’t washed the car yet and could I wait a few minutes while they did?
So I waited…
and waited…
and waited…
Finally he comes back and says they’ve hosed it down but they haven’t shammied it. FINE.
I was so concerned about what kind of job they did on the dent that I barely looked inside the car. When I got home, I realized that my virtually new, spotless carpets were now covered in filth as well as the pedals and the underside of the dash. Colour me NOT IMPRESSED. On top of that, they must have use some sort of soap in the spray wash and now the outside of the car is covered in soap spots that are not coming off very easily. I’ll need to wash it again tomorrow on top of scrubbing the carpets and the interior today.
The thing is, I didn’t call to complain. I should have, I know, but confrontation is not my best quality. In fact, I have a very hard time complaining to service people. I’ll use my napkin to clean a dirty fork or knife in a restaurant rather than tell the waiter or convince the hairdresser that I love my new do and run home to wash it and style it again.
I need to grow a backbone.

I don’t like complaining either but I just figure that it must make me a very, very nice person instead. See? Equate no backbone to being very nice. A push over but nice.
