The Tate’s not falling apart, it’s just art

If you’d like a good laugh because your day has left you feeling a bit down then check out this story. The Tate Gallery in London, England have their latest bit of art on show for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.

It’s a 548 feet long and 10 inch wide crack zig-zagging along the floor. It took Colombian artist Doris Salcedo six months to create the “masterpiece” along with £300,000. They should have asked me. I could have done it in a day with a pneumatic drill and a packed lunch.

Three people visiting have already fallen over as a result. I guess that health and safety together with art don’t mix well.

  1. Lol@They should have asked me. I guess they should have. I am not just sure what is so artistic aboout a crack on the ground. And to top it of, they are not as convincingly horrifying than the real ones I have seen in Africa. Having said that though, I guess art have many forms whose expression requires our toleration.

  2. It would really be a bit more impressive artistically if he had actually drawn it on…. that would show some artistic skill…

I found one of the comments to the article funny.
“You could always use it to sweep rubbish into …”
    Hehe. Good idea.

  3. I think there’ll be a long line of people who’d say they could do a decent job of putting a large crack in the floor. Maybe you’re right that we need to show tolerance to artful expression but as Sarah say’s it would have been a more impressive feat as a 3D-drawing/painting perhaps.

  4. Well……anything is considered ‘art’ these days. I personally don’t see it but maybe I’m just ignorant. “The crack is said to represent the division problem of integrating immigrants into European society”……Ok then???? Not something I’d have thought of.

  5. “… and a packed lunch”… you’re such a wit! :)

  6. I don’t think you’re ignorant Hannah. I don’t think many people really see it as art.

Thank you Nicola. One tries… ;)
